Our dive club enjoys a collaboration with the South Florida Divers Inc (SFDI). This is aimed to elevate the diving experience for everyone involved, especially our members and the wider dive community in South Florida. Adventure doesn’t have to break the bank! We’ve worked closely with SFDI to organize a series of planned activities at discounted rates exclusively for our members. From dive trips to training sessions, gear rentals, and more, we’re making sure your underwater exploration is as affordable as it is exciting. In an effort to make diving more accessible to students, they’re offering free membership to all FIU students. It’s their way of ensuring that the next generation of divers can explore the depths safely and without financial barriers. Dive into your passion for the ocean with the peace of mind that you’re fully covered. Dive insurance is required.
We believe financial constraints should never be a barrier to exploring the underwater world. That’s why they’ve established a dive fund dedicated to subsidizing our dives. This initiative aims to support our members in affording more dive experiences, reducing costs, and encouraging more frequent underwater adventures.
Head over to their website at https://www.sfdi.com/membership-application. Download the membership application and take it to their meeting on the first Wednesday of every month. Alternatively, you may send it via mail. Write ‘FIU Student’ in the payment space.
Student Covenants Necessary to Receive Assistance:
- Must attend a minimum of 3 meetings or events a year (bike rides/dinner at large/ Club sponsored party/beach picnic, etc.).
- Must be in good standing with the club.
- Must be an enrolled, attending student of FIU.
- Must submit a request signed off by the dive coordinator to attest that they did, in fact, attend the dive to get reimbursed.
SFDI Covenants:
- SFDI will provide financial assistance as follows:
50% of the cost + Tax of an SFDI sponsored dive on a commercial dive boat (student responsible for the tip) - Assistance will be allotted to each student on a first come/first served basis.
- No one student is entitled to more than one assisted dive per month.
